You cannot say that all immigrants contribute. You cannot say that there are “only a few” bad apples, there are many more than a “few”. You cannot say all immigrants are “bad” either or even most are “bad”, just as you cannot say there are not quite a few that are “good”. I think what anyone that has a problem with immigration is referring to, is NOT immigrants that are like your family. Its the ones with the crappy attitudes, “We are going to take you over, and you cant do anything about it” attitudes. That in and of itself is a taunt. Go to any nation and taunt the inhabitants and see if they like you. So, It seems that we have some that contribute, some that are blood suckers, and some that dont contribute and yet dont do harm.

My parents were first generation Americans. Yes, born on American soil from illegal parents. They all went to college and have spot free criminal records – including my grandparents, and all my uncles, and all my aunts, cousins, second cousins and the rest of my family tree.

They never were on welfare. They paid taxes. They worked in the fields day and night. My grandparents came here with the dream that their futures will be full of success and we pulled through for them.

MANY of my friends are second generation Americans as well and our families have been successful as well. I honestly think that the media is making a frenzy out of a few bad apples.

*side note* My grandmother learned English from doing crossword puzzles.

Yes, I understand that you don’t want to be forced to learn another culture (though you appreciate everyone keeping their own). You want people who come here to adopt our American culture. That is reasonable. I think I am approaching it from a mother’s perspective–I see how our world has “flattened out” and I want my kids to be able to prepared (i.e. they need to learn Chinese!). Also, speaking other languages IS good for a child’s brain! It also will help my kids get jobs one day. And, I want my kids just to learn and understand other cultures, so they will not be prejudiced. But, these are separate issues from your points.

The funny thing is, if you travel overseas, it doesn’t matter what color you are or where your ancestors come from–we’re all American.

I think that if all people are equal, then all people have a right to there own soverighnity, meaning If your a black man, raised in a black culture, or a mexican man raised in a mexican culture, I wouldn’t want to “change” ( and probably would be unsuccessful anyway) your identity, or rob you of your heritage and culture. I also wouldn’t want you doing that to me, and no thanks, I do not care to “exchange” my culture for someone elses. I am perfectly happy with my own identitiy. The reason that many people get in such a uproar about illegals, as well as legal immigrants, is because some tend to try to “push there culture down our throats”, meaning see, I am here, i am now in your country, there are many more coming, now YOU HAVE TO BE JUST LIKE US, OR AT LEAST A COMPOSITE OF US. Whooooa buddy. We dont “have to do nothing.. My biggest gripe is that If I wanna be who I am, and if I wanna be surrounded with others like myself, and from my own culture, then I should be able to do that in my own country. What happens, when you have widescale immigration, is a saturation of the area ( as in Finney KS) with people from other cultures. That in and of itself isn’t a issue, it only becomes a issue when they want me to speak THEIR LANGUAGE… Hmmmm EXCUSE me? This is not Mexico, this is not Kenya, This is America, and the official language is English. Comprende’ amigo? Many traditional white people take it as a insult, when someone comes to there country, and will not learn the language. I can see why. If I were to move to france I would be speaking the french language as if I were from france, as a sign of respect, or at least attempt to learn it, if that is where my home would be! (parler la langue française comme si j’étais la France, comme signe de respect, ou essayez au moins de l’apprendre, si c’est où ma maison serait !)

Yes and a new life is a great thing. I have nothing against AMerica offering that, but not at the detriment of America. If we waste taxpayer money, its wrong, if we have increased crime from immigration, then we need to screen much better, or cut down the flow of immigrants. If we can no longer support a population ( it continues to grow at a alarming rate) then we need to say sorry elevator only holds 12, and there are 15 on here now.. no more.
