This is a great story and I want to thank fellow blogger, Dave, for bringing it to my attention. He is big on businesses being used as a force for good.
In October, Archway Bakery closed its doors, leaving 300 employees without work. Along came Lance Inc. (You know, the guys who make all those crackers Mom used to pack in your lunchbox.) They purchased Archway at a bankruptcy auction. Lance then gave all 300 former Archway workers a $1,500 prepaid debit card, rehiring 60 of the employees with a promise to try to rehire the rest.
Isn’t that a great story for the agnostic and atheist soul?
Unfortunately, today Lance announced that it would trim 507 jobs, nearly 300 right here in my backyard in north Texas. It’s too bad good will doesn’t have some sort of fiscal reward. I suppose if it did, though, we’d all be givers, and we’d put crime out of business.
If there are any other stories of businesses “doing good,” please share. We need happy news in these times.
